Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots

One of my best friends is visiting for a week and thus, I have been uncharacteristically busy with random errands and fun things, instead of job-searching.  In order to honor the fact that my college apartment 205 mates were together again, we did what we do best as an apartment; we threw a party for our reunion.

After a few failed suggestions, we settled on three simple things to make. 1. Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots, 2. Snickerdoodles, and 3. Whatever Mixed Drink. Now, the third one is a bit weird, but let me explain. I am always the bartender and/or drink maker in the house and people always ask me what the recipes to my drinks are. But I don’t have recipes. I honestly just think up random things, put it together, test taste, repeat, and it always works out deliciously.

The star of the show was definitely the Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots, so I will be roughly telling you guys how to make them. For the Tequila Sunrise Jello Shots, you need to empty out oranges so that you can use their peels later on.

Plus, the fresh orange juice also helps make the jello itself so we strained the pulpy juice for more liquid.

Then we do two different jello flavors, one cherry and another lemon. Both jellos have orange juice, tequila, and vodka. You also have to chill after every layer so the layers do not mix into one another. We put a little more orange juice in our lemon mixture so it is more orange-y red than it is normally, however there was still two beautiful layers even though it’s hard to tell in my picture on the left. The picture on the right is one I found on the internet.

They turned out fantastic and disappeared the moment I brought them out. The alcohol was masked and tasted delicious, even though I put a decent amount of alcohol in it. I would definitely recommend anyone try it if they want to wow their guests and also have delicious, beautiful, jello shots. However, get some help in the kitchen because if it was just by myself, it would have been difficult carving up so many oranges.

The snickerdoodles were gone before I had the chance to take pictures, and I completely forgot to snap a photo of my Whatever Mixed Drink as well. My friends watched me make the drink and thought all my ingredients were odd (lemon, grape, cherry, orange juice, tonic water, and vodka) but it turned out fantastic anyways. All in all, it was a fun time with the people I love. Our time to throw collegiate parties might be over, but I guess that just means, we’ll be throwing bigger and better parties without bad boxed wine.
